Community Meal at First Baptist Church

The Community Meal at First Baptist Church began on December 14, 2004.
We started this program because there was no evening meal on Tuesdays in the city of Troy.  Many people in this area are homeless or living in shelters and dealing with substance abuse, mental challenges and physical limitations.  Our Community Meal is much needed in this area.  During our first six months we served an average of 44 guests each Tuesday.  During the last year, our average has grown to 54 guests each Tuesday.  We have a record night of 83 guests.

All local agencies know of our services and we refer our guests to each other depending on the individual needs of our clients.  We also house a Community Closet which offers clothing, coats, blankets, and personal care products to those who attend the Community Meal.  These items are free and provide much needed relief to our guests who are struggling to make ends meet or who actually live on the streets.

We also discovered a need to help provide emergency food for folks that find themselves in a pinch to feed themselves or there family. The Community Cupboard  at First Baptist has canned goods and quick, easy to prepare meals to help get people by.  We have a resource table available in our dining area with Jobs Weekly newspapers and Apartment Finder magazines etc.

Pastor Doug Thomson also attends our meal.  He is available if anyone wants to chat or would just like some company.

Make checks payable to The Regional Food Bank and note in the memo area 1330s   $1.00 buys $13.00 of food at the food bank!!

We always need blankets!!! Drop them off at the the church M-F between 10:00 
and 2:00 or all day on Tuesday's.
